Summertime Greens
The summer is in full swing and and the neighborhood is eating like kings at last. The lettuce gives a great salad with dinner every night and with the great tomato starts my roommate Martin got going early this spring, I think we should be getting a wide variety of good fruit soon. I have not seen a huge move from the basil yet, but I’m hoping to try some new pesto recipes this season.
I was fortunate enough to get a few hop starts from awesome neighbor and friend David Stucky, but I think I may have waited too long to get them growing up the trellis, because I found them dead the other morning, and I don’t think they’re coming back. I guess I will have to wait ’til next year.
Fortunately the blueberries are starting to put out some big numbers, which will make for some good smoothies later this month. Strawberries have also been popping up, however I think the birds and squirrels have noticed as well. But I’m waiting for some more berries for salads, and of course smoothies.
