Live for Today and Don’t Worry About Tomorrow?

I’ve been an absolute pile about posting the newest developments and ideas for this upcoming season; for that I apologize. This past summer has been a real learning experience as the spring one upped the winter months with so much rain. As it sounds like I am complaining, I’m not. Mentioned in my previous post, Cherry. Roma. Whatever You Got, although the rain had some dramatic effect on the growing habits of the tomatoes, they were far from sparse.

A good friend and fellow gardner, Jesse Wilson, was kind enough to stop by a few times a week throughout the spring and summer with immense amounts of organic fruits and vegetables to share. As the fall was kind enough to supply the Willamette Valley’s orchards with massive amounts of apples and pears, I was more than fortunate enough to try my hand at baking with a wide variety of local fruit.

Jesse brought over a tub full of  local pre-sliced apples he’d been marinating in oatmeal, cinnamon, and the things that make a pie taste just right. His recommendation upon entering my house was the immediate “Pre-heat the oven.” I followed suit, leading to an inevitable full stomach.

As we prepare for the next season I feel it proper, if you will, to do our best to avoid following the weather speculations from ,”Merv next door,” and  get ready for the mircualous underestimated resources from the Pacific Northwest that we take for granted each year.

As we see the sun shining on a more consistent basis, it gives the undeniable urge to do something outside. Don’t be alarmed, it’s natural. You can never stop getting ready for the next planting season, and as one of my closest friends Nick Fisher, (web established viewers may know him as FICKNISH, however I assure you his name is Nick) has spared his allergies to get a head start on one of the most inexpensive, and successful ways to get your garden going. (Check out FICKNISH.COM [1.25.2011 post]) My compadre has some of the most ambition I’ve seen to do the most shit, the best he can, in the shortest amount of time. Check him out, you’ll dig him.
